Another interment option besides traditional ground burial is mausoleum entombment. A mausoleum is simply a large building designed to provide above-ground interment (or entombment) for a number of unrelated people. Sharing the cost of the mausoleum with other individuals has made it an affordable and attractive option for many.
Graceland Cemetery, the only cemetery in the county with mausoleums, features seven mausoleums with an eighth on the way. The Chapel of Peace is surrounded by the Corridor of Love, the Sanctuary of Hope and the Sanctuary of Faith. The Chapel of Peace was constructed in the early 70’s as were the Sanctuary of Hope and Sanctuary of Faith. The Corridor of Love was completed in the late 1970’s. Mausoleum Buildings 3, 4 and 5 were built in the 1980’s and Mausoleum Building 6 finished construction in the late 1990’s.
